brickwall

Wow today seems to have been a long day. this project is like hitting my head against a brick wall.
after a morning of half successful design work (new found love for tracing paper!) It took a good couple of hours in the canteen to drum up some more enthusiasm over coffee. The problem is all the boxes are techinically being ticked.

so why do i still feel like im not getting anywhere with it?
suffice to say i think im going to end up straying from my Statement of Intent. because inspiration has disappeared, the idea feels stale. however, an hour of playful trials with paper conjured up this little beauty.
and all in one stage, back drop, and auditorium. (of sorts)
I love design that serves more than one function, that changes and evolves, multifunctional, playful.
Time to inject a bit of that fixation i think.

Back to the Grind

Aloha Manchester.
back to it this week with a couple of days regrouping, reassembling workspaces and cracking out the projects research ready to hit the design stage. Explored mono-printing as a new way to simplify shapes and patterns.
Photos to follow :)

hello old friend

In a desperate bid to distract myself I have sought great comfort in my old sewing machine. Having sat untouched in the studio since it moved in there oh so many months ago, yesterday I indulged in the wonderful world of AbakanFabrics.
Treating myself to lots of vintage florals, and lace trims, pastel buttons and gingham ribbons, I then spent a lovely evening re-acquainting myself with textile techniques and rattling off a couple of beautiful little cushion covers.
[these are terrible photographs but will suffice for now]
needless to say ive woken up buzzing with more ideas and now just need to search every possible hidey hole for more cushion fillings!!

l'oignon

Am using these wonderfully relaxed holidays to indulge in some personal creativity with regards to LizzieDoyle etc, but also keeping an eye out for inspirational shapes to inform my FMP.
Was making spaghetti the other night and the red onion did the most amazing popped layer effect, seeing as i already have an obsession with the vivid colour of this vegetable i whipped out the camera and happily snapped up these beautiful photographs.
